Review of Loma Linda, California

Meh!
Star Rating - 10/11/2014
Lived in Loma Linda for 5+ years. Have lived on East Coast, West Coast, 8 states and 2 countries, so this tiny town ain't my first relo rodeo. Overall, pretty anemic. The entire "city" is essentially a municipally incorporated extension of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Nearly all the city revolves around or is heavily linked to SDA (hmm, one-time mayor? Yes, church leader and faculty member at SDA Loma Linda University. Ditto for city council members & city employees.) Very little to do overall outside church-related social circles. Fledgling farmer's market and some nice parks with good walking/biking trails (eg Hulda Crooks park.) Statistically a very healthy place with good longevity: the SDA community to its credit is renown for healthy lifestyle and strong health outcome measure. Area has surprisingly expensive home prices for what you get. Nearby city of Redlands far better non-denominational choice with more culture & rec opportunities.
